SHILLONG, AUG 19: Together with the rest of the nation, Sadbhavana Diwas 2016, was observed at the main secretariat on Friday where the state government employees of all ranks gathered to take the pledge to promote national integration and communal harmony among all religions, language and regions.
Sadbhavana Diwas is observed every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India, whose dream was to make India a developed country..
Speaking on the occasion briefly before administering the pledge, chief minister Mukul Sangma fondly recalled late Rajiv Gandhi as an illustrious leader who was instrumental in placing the country in the highest pedestal of modernity. His comprehensive development agenda and inclusive approach to governance gave a platform to the youth to realize their dreams and facilitated active participation of women in the otherwise male-dominated nation, he said.
The chief minister also said that coming together of all the people is indispensable to counter the forces inimical to the growth of the nation and spoke of the need to pool all our resources to thwart such forces indulging in unlawful activities and the need to engage regionally and internationally to understand the ramifications of such activities from the geo-political perspective.
He was of the view that the celebration of Sadbhavana Diwas should not be confined only to the secretariat but also observed in all the districts and blocks of the state “so that the message percolates down to all the people at the grassroots”, he added.-By Our Reporter
