SHILLONG, MAY 4: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday said the state government is still examining the demand to enhance the salary of the adhoc teachers.
Asked if the government is in a position to consider enhancing their salary by Rs 18,000, Rymbui said, “The government is examining all the necessary things which are to be done.”
“As of now I don’t want to say anything this much or how much but as and when the decision is taken by the government, all the necessary details will be given in the public domain,” he assured.
On the FASTOM’s decision to intensify its agitation if the government fails to comply with its demand within one week’s time, Rymbui however asked the teachers to trust the state government.
“As government we are working to fulfill the aspirations of all sections of the society be it teachers, be it farmers, be it anybody – so when the government is working on the process we have to trust each other,” he said.
“If there is mistrust on each other, it will not reach anywhere. So trust is important as no issues could be solved overnight, everybody wants to give the best to the society,” he added.
The education minister further stated that it is not a question of one sector only, it is a question of one sector affecting the other sectors.
Stating that the government has to commit according to its capacity, Rymbui said, “the government will enhance with maximum which it could fulfill because enhancement is not a question of receiving salary after 3-5 months will not arise anymore.”
The education minister also maintained that no government would want to deny anybody their rights.
“Having said that it is not easy for the government to take a decision because the decision which we take it has a wide ranging ramification because it affects other sectors also so not only that when we take a decision we will take a decision which the government will ensure there will be no problem like what we have experienced with other sectors where we commit today, we cannot pay every month, we have to pay every three – four months so whatever decision we will take a conscious decision so that the government will be able to fulfill its obligations and promises,” he asserted.
