Shillong, Oct 12:In what can be seen as a relief to the schools run by missionaries in the state, union minister of human resources Kapil Sibal assured that the Right to Education (RTE) Act will not infringed upon the management of the educational institutions run by the minorities.
Meghalaya government has come under lot of pressure in complying with the clauses of the RTE that stipulated that 80 % of the members of the managing committees should comprise of parents.
Most of the schools in the state are run by missionaries and these institutions had even expressed their inability to fully comply with rules framed under the RTE act through meetings and representations to the government.
However, Sibal told newsmen at Sohra on Friday that the act has been amended and the composition of the members of the managing committee of minority run institutions have been altered. “Any school run by the minorities will have its own management and if at all there is a representation from the parents, they can only play an advisory role” .He also urged upon the people “not to misinterpret the act” which was amended.
Moreover , without touching on controversy relating to North east students in mainland India, Sibal said that he has seen more students going to New Delhi and other cities, terming the pattern as encouraging. “W will encourage them more”, he summed up before leaving the world wettest place. – By Our Reporter
