SHILLONG, JUNE 24: The forest department in Garo hill wants the Garo Student’s Union (GSU) of Mindikgre regional unit to deposit Rs one lakh for Right To Information (RTI) Act 2005 reply from the department.
In a letter to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Garo Hills Division (T) Tura, West Garo Hills District, GSU-MRU president Greneth M Sangma said he had contacted the forest office on the status of his RTI queries on June 23 and was informed that it was not ready.
Sangma continued,“Finally when it was ready the department quoted Rs 1 lakh for the xerox copies of the replies.”
Sangma made it clear that the GSU is not going to spend such an amount on an RTI when there are other cost effective ways of acquiring the RTI like furnishing information on a CD.
Sangma in his letter urged the office to furnish the information sought in a CD within 10 days.-By Our Reporter
