SHILLONG, MAR 6: The Meghalaya government is intending to come up with a Referential Purchase Policy (RPP) to ease the sale of produce of its government industries and establishments.
“The government intends to have a Referential Purchase Policy (RPP) to facilitate the sale of produce of our own industries/establishments particularly in those where its investment is there. We will work on this model,” chief minister Mukul Sangma told the Assembly on the second day of the budget session.
The chief minister was answering to queries raised by UDP Sohra MLA Titosstarwell Chyne who suggested the need for the government to ensure all departments should use cement manufactured by the Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL).
However, Sangma said that the MCCL was yet to seek for such a provision.
But at the same time, he assured that the exercise of the government to provide the support system to ensure reference purchase by all departments will be further examined.
Asserting that the MCCL has witnessed an increase in demand, Sangma claimed that the demand has tripled in the first month of operationalizing of the new plant adding the trend of demand was good and marketing should not be a problem.
Moreover, on his part, Chyne expressed concern over the “incompetency” of the MCCL process engineer, PK Sharma.
“Till now, MCCL has not reached the mark of daily production at 600 MT as it is still producing around 300 MT as the person is not capable of being a process engineer,” Chyne said.
To this, Sangma assured that the matter would be reviewed and that the concern would be attended to.
Further, the chief minister informed that the second instalment of VRS dues will be released at the earliest to ensure the process is completed. The MCCL is having a total 290 regular employees.
