Shillong, August 29: Jeremy Brockie’s hattrick sealed the fate of the Shillong Premier League champion Royal Wahingdoh as the New Zealand based Wellington Phoenix Football Club rode high on his three goals ending Wednesday game 3-0 at JN Sports complex
Jeremy scored the opening goal in the twenty-nine minutes of the game after he converted the cross ball from Tyler Boyd giving the tourist 1-0 lead till the lemon break.
A minute after the changing the side, Tyler and Jeremy combine once again blended well and gave the New Zeland side the second goal.
The custodian of the visitor team Glen Moss and substitute Scott Basalaj were seen relaxing under the bar as their skill was hardly tested by the local lads.
Jeremy scored his third goal during the added minute of the game when referee C. Syiemiong awarded spot kick after he caught Kareem Nurain bringing down Jeremy inside the box. Taking the kick Jeremy made no mistake to put the ball behind the bar beating Wahingdoh’s substitute goalkeeper Nikhil C. Brenard.
Later during the post match conference Wahingdoh coach Chapmen said “It was a good experience for our boys and a moral booster before the kick off of the federation cup”.
Giving his opinion about Wednesday game, touring team coach Ricky Herbert said jokingly, “At least today I know he (Jeremy) can score”.
Wellington Phoenix, who are in A-League organized by the Australian Football Association, will have their first match on October 6 at Sydney.
Herbert, however, said that he was not bothered about the result in Shillong but want his team to perform well on October 6 at Sydney. – By Suraj Joshi
