SHILLONG, JUNE 20: The committee examining the controversial Nongstoin-Mawthabah road project has been given 45 days extension to complete job and arriving at a final decision on the road project by KHADC. The committee’s term will expire on June end.
Replying during the question hour on the first day of the session, which started here on Monday, KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem said, “The executive committee (EC) has decided to grant another 45 days to the committee to submit its report based on which we will take a final call on the issue.”
Agreeing with the members of the house that the road issue is of serious concern, Syiem said that the decision to extend the term of the committee is because the issue still requires further examination.
The 9-member committee constituted on April 25 is headed by the Executive Member in-charge Land Hadrian Lyngdoh.
While raising her supplementary query, former KHADC chairperson Teilinia Thangkhiew, also HSPDP MDC from Mylliem, urged the EC to refrain from delaying the issue fearing that the projects under SARDP-NE may slip from the region.
She also suggested the EC to examine the possibility of diverting the project from the uranium belt village to other areas and wanted to know whether the council proposed to hold any public hearing on the matter.
On this, the EM in-charge Land Hadrian Lyngdoh said, “The delay in issuing of the NOC for construction of the road is because there are two groups , for and against the project.”
“The committee is still examining the representations submitted by the two groups before deciding to hold any public hearing,” he added.-By Our Reporter
