SHILLONG, DEC 1: Intensifying its stir, the Khasi Students’ Union – South West Khasi Hills Unit (KSU-SWKH) decided to call for another two-day night road blockade on December 4-5 to pressurize the state government to restore back the road project in the district.
“The night road blockade will begin from 7pm to 5am on December 4 and 5,” the union’s general secretary Forwardman Nongrem said.
Nongrem said the decision to intensify their agitations was taken after the state government failed to respond to their demand to restore back the road project, which was earlier dropped by the government.
Earlier, the union had similar agitation on November 27-28.
“We strongly oppose the indifference attitude of the state government towards the people of the region,” Nongrem said. According to him, the road blockade will be effective in the entire South West Khasi Hills district and Mawsynram block in East Khasi hills district.
The 40 KM road from Weiloi to Rangblang which was projected to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 27 crore is one of the 45 projects under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) which were dropped last year, based on the recommendation of the Chief Minister in the 118thmeeting of NLCPR committee.
Nongrem warned that if the government does not pay any heed to their demand the union will be compelled to resort to massive agitations in the future.- By Our Reporter
