SHILLONG, DEC 17: Riti Academy has opened a space for creative activities on arts and literature at Umsohsun, called the “MAD Gallery” where literary, performing and visual arts programmes are being held regularly; besides, imparting training in visual art, music and dance.
There are many limitations in its endeavour due to lack of resources for conducting the training and hosting events. Therefore, a musical concert “Psalmphony” will be held on December 19 from 3 PM onwards as part of their creative activities to raise fund for the Academy.
The participants of the concert are the students of music in Shillong based institutions that have excelled in their respective profession and participated in prestigious events, including the recent International Terra Madre “Meiramew” Festival held recently in the state and the International Indigenous Theatre Festival Dhaka 2015 at Bangladesh.
As part of the programme, there will be the distribution of hundreds of gifts to the audience donated by an anonymous philanthropist. The purpose of the gifts is encourage to share with friends and neighbours who are in need.
There are various activities that the Academy proposes to undertake for the benefit of the children and the young people of the state. Even as the training on visual arts have been done since 1995; with the opening of the MAD Gallery, there will be regular training sessions on music and dance also, which included both folk and contemporary genre.

The Academy said it was grateful for all the support rendered by the Art and Culture and Forest and Environment departments in the past and looking forward for continued support to sustain its effort to contribute in the society.
It may be mentioned that since the opening of the MAD Gallery on September last, some innovative and pertinent programmes were held and the most vital events are the Colloquium on Dream Folklore and Art, the launching of the Khasi Expansive Dictionary Project and the participation at the 1st International Indigenous Theatre Festival Dhaka 2015 at Bangladesh.-By Our Reporter
