Rich tribute paid to (L) PA Sangma on his 3rd death anniv

SHILLONG, MAR 4 Lt P A Sangma was fondly remembered and tributes were paid during the Memorial Lecture on the third Death Anniversary of Lt P A Sangma held at District Auditorium where Former Chief Minister and Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, D D Lapang delivered a Memorial Lecture in the presence of Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, Home Minister James K Sangma, Soradini Sangma wife of former Member of Parliament Lt P A Sangma, amongst other distinguished dignitaries. The programme was jointly organized by P A Sangma Foundation, Tura in association with Synod College, Meghalaya Shillong.

Delivering the Memorial Lecture, D D Lapang paid glowing tribute and eulogized the great personality and leadership of Lt. P A Sangma and considered him as one of the Tallest Leader of the North East Region. He also mentioned about his close association with Lt P A Sangma and his family in the earlier days. Further, he stated that though he hailed from a small village in Chapahati in South West Garo Hills, with his outstanding values and determination, became one of the tallest leader of the State and Country as well.

Moreover, in 1977 when P A Sangma was given a chance to contest the Lok Sabha Elections by Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Captain W A Sangma who has confidence in his capability and which he proved by becoming the Member of the Parliament and then contributed a lot by bringing various developmental projects in the region.  Further, D D Lapang also mentioned that Lt P A Sangma when he was the Speaker in the Parliament, he proved himself to be a powerful speaker and outstanding parliamentarian.

In his remarks, the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma expressed his gratitude to Dr. D D Lapang who had shared his thoughts and love for Lt P A Sangma and also for his immense contribution to the people of the State. Further, he expressed his disappointment since the hall was half empty and felt that maybe people forget when the person is not there anymore who has contributed a lot for the society or there may be some mistake on the part of the organizers but, however, he hoped that there would be better participation in future.

While recalling the vision of Lt P A Sangma for the development of the State as well as North East region, he said that the inputs which were given to them during many informal meetings are being helpful for them at present.

He informed that they are working on the guidelines of the Vision and Mission of Lt P A Sangma and would bring necessary developmental projects for the region in the coming days, of which the much awaited Research Centre on Garo Culture will be set up at Babadam under West Garo Hills by the Tribal Research Institute of India tomorrow. He also informed that the stretch of road from Araimile to Ballonggre via Dakopgre has been named as P A Sangma Road and Renamed the Dikki Bandi Stadium as P A Sangma Stadium on his 3rd Death anniversary.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Adviser to the Chief Minister, Government of Meghalaya and Secretary P A Sangma Foundation, Thomas A Sangma, Principal, Synod College, Shillong Dr. R M Lyngdoh and Coordinator, IQAC, Synod College, Shillong Dr. M Rani led the gathering in prayer.
