SHILLONG, JAN 14: While welcoming the Supreme Court direction of October 8, 2013 directing governments to implement the three percent reservation of posts in conformity with the “The Persons with Disabilities Act 1995”, the Meghalaya Parents Association for Disabled (MEPAD) said that now it becomes binding on the Meghalaya government to implement the apex court directives by January 8, 2014.
MEPAD secretary Belbora Wankhar said that the organization will take recourse to the RTI to find out the action taken by the state government to implement the apex court directive with regards to the three percent job reservation to the differently abled persons in the state.
Wankhar also said that with the apex court direction it is now clear that the reservation of 3% for the differently abled persons in conformity with the Act’95 should be computed on the basis of the total strength of a cadre (identified & not identified) and not just on the vacancies available in the posts that are identified.- By Our Reporter
