Shillong, Sept 7: The Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Bills, 2012 and two other bills- Meghalaya Excise Amendment Bill, 2012 and the Police Amendment Bill, 2012- were passed on the last day of the three days autumn session of the Meghalaya Assembly.
With the passage of the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Bills, 2012 it now become mandatory for married men and women to compulsory furnish a marriage certificate for all official purposes.
The Meghalaya Excise Amendment Bill, 2012, imposes fines to bottling, distillery and winery plants, ranging rupees five to rupees three lakhs, for any violation and offences of the state Excise act.
The Police Amendment Bill, 2012 reduces the minimum education qualification for recruitment of armed branch constables from matriculation to Class IX.
Besides it also amended the International Open University and Rajitlal University Amendments Bills 2012, to include the Governor of Meghalaya as its visitors to the universities.- By Our Reporter
