SHILLONG, FEB 27: The regional parties consisting of the UDP, HSPDP and KHNAM have decided to form the Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and will be meeting on Friday at UDP president Donkupar Roy to decide on the structure of the new EC.
The decision to form a regional parties combine EC in KHADC was taken during a meeting of the leaders of the three parties held late on Thursday evening immediately after the result of the KHADC was announced.
HSPDP vice president and legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit, who was also elected to the KHADC from Nongkrem constituency defeating sitting Congress MDC Lambor Malniang told this website late Thursday night, “ The leaders of the HSPDP, UDP and KHNAM met today and have formally decided to form the KHADC executive committee.”
Basaiawmoit also informed that the leaders of the three regional political parties will be meeting at the residence of UDP president Donkupar Roy to decide on the structure of the new KHADC executive committee.
The three regional parties have bagged seventeen seats between them with the HSPDP clinching seven seats followed closely by the UDP with six and KHNAM got four seats. The NCP and an Independent got one seats each.
On the other hands, the Congress has won ten seats falling short by another five seats for a simple majority. The previous Congress led KHADC EC looks well out of power in the district council as the three regional parties looks committed to keep the pre-poll promise that they would work together to keep the Congress out of power.- By Our Reporter
