SHILLONG, AUG 8: Additional Director General of Police (TAP) cum Chairman of Central Recruitment Board (CRB) BL Buam clarified that there is a ceiling on the number of candidates to be called for the personal interview as it is linked to the vacancies available.
Buam was responding to the allegation leveled against the police department by around 1,000 candidates who had passed their written tests but were not called for personal interview. These candidates are all from Jaintia Hills. The candidates also had given 24-hour deadline to the state government to clarify as to why they were not shortlisted for personal interview slated for August 12.
Buam said that as the total number of candidates to be called for the interview is 1.5 times the number of vacancies, those who have scored lesser marks in Physical and Efficiency Test (PET) and written test have not been called for the personal interview even though they had passed.
Stating that the CRB has been implementing the Transparent Recruitment Police (TRP) in ‘letter’ and ‘spirit’, Buam said, “We had to take the candidates securing the highest marks from different category of candidates for the interview based on the 1.5 times of the number of vacancies.”
Buam added that the process the Meghalaya police is following is based on the job reservation policy of the state which is 15 per cent for open category, 40 each for Khasi and Garo and five per cent for other tribes.”
The board had issued a total of 58,037 application forms for Arm and Unarm constable vacancy posts.
For AB posts, out of 20552 applications applied, 11084 qualified in PET and 10322 appeared for written test. Of the 10322 candidates who appeared for the written test, only 5561 were declared successful. Of the 5561 candidates only 776 were called for the personal interview.
Under UB posts, out of 7313 candidates, 3567 candidates qualified in PET and 3365 appeared for the written test. Of the 2974 candidates who passed the written test, only 1118 candidates were called for the personal interview, Buam said.
Buam also said that the interviews have been proposed to be held under the CCTV coverage, to ensure greater transparency.-By Our Reporter
