SHILLONG, SEPT 18: Meghalaya deputy chief minister Rowell Lyngdoh inaugurated the children recreation park at Mawkdok and drinking water catchment protection work storage tank and washing platform at Wahshari Khliehshnong in the presence of local legislator TW Chyne on Wednesday.
The scheme is part of the Cherrapunjee Ecological Project & Restoration of the degraded lands under Sohra plateau.
In his speech Lyngdoh appreciated the effort taken by the Soil & Water Conservation department and informed that this project is meant for the people of the area. He also informed that the government will also sanction money for development of the area.
Lyngdoh said now these projects which were being inaugurated is for the the people and now it is their turn to takes care, maintain and keep it clean.He also stressed on the need to restore back its natural beauty by putting a full stop to the mining of coal as it has led to deforestation.
Other dignitaries present at the function were D Langstieh director of the Soil & Water Conservation department and KM Syiem addl director of the department.- By Our Reporter
