SHILLONG, MAR 10: Meghalaya district council affairs (DCA) minister HDR Lyngdoh on Tuesday told the assembly report and recommendation of the Commission of Enquiry probing the alleged irregularities by the GHADC is pending with the law department for examination.
Replying to a question raised by NPP legislator James K Sangma during the ongoing budget session of the state assembly, Lyngdoh said, “The report is now being sent to Law department for its comments and advice.”
According to Lyngdoh, this was done based on the direction of the cabinet to the DCA for consultation with law and finance department. He said, “However, the DCA has already received the views and suggestions from the finance department.”
The Commission of Enquiry was constituted to enquire into the alleged irregularities and misappropriation of funds and illegal appointments made in different departments of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
The report of the enquiry was submitted to the government on December 29, 2012.
Subsequently, the Report and Recommendations of the Commission of Enquiry had been under examination in the department and was placed before the cabinet on November 18, 2014.
Lyngdoh informed the house that the Cabinet directed the department to consult law and finance departments on measures to be suggested to the district councils to bring about financial reforms, financial discipline and budget management and then to place it again before the cabinet.- By Our Reporter
