SHILLONG, NOV 14: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday directed the State police to take stern action against reckless driving.
His statement came a day after a tragic accident where a woman died after being hit by an over-speeding bike while attempting to cross the road at Mawlai Mawdatbaki.
“I have seen this tragic incident happen almost everyday. Therefore, instruction has been given to the Director General of Police (DGP) and (he has directed) be it traffic police or be it district administration or be it SP, that any reckless driving by two wheelers or four wheelers has to be handled very seriously,” Tynsong told reporters.
“We will not tolerate any reckless driving and will make sure that they are booked and penalised as per law of the land,” he said.
In regards to the police recruitment, Tynsong said, “Vacancies are there and now we are in the process of ultimately print out the advertisement because recently the cabinet has just approved few amendment made in the existing rules of the police central recruitment board and we have already amended and then very soon the advertisement will come out.”
Stating that the police will continue its fight against drug menace, the deputy CM said that the police team hardly sleep and are trying their best to nab the drug suppliers.
“We are trying our best to nab especially the suppliers of drugs. For those addicts we knew very well even the shnong and family members will willingly report this but ultimately we need to really come on the supplier heavily. We are doing that and the police don’t sleep as they are really working on this,” he said.
To a query, Tynsong said, “Let me tell you one thing. It is not that we don’t have enough inputs, it is not that we don’t have enough manpower, we do have. The only point here is that at least even the public, if they have any kind of suspicion, inform us we will not disclose their names, just inform us something fishy here, then the police will be there always.”
