Shillong, August 6: The Shillong branch of The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will be formally inaugurated on the last week of August. The RBI officials are trying to get Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma to inaugurate it on August 24.
RBI general manager (O-in-C) P Shyam Sunder told Oh! Meghalaya if the chief minister is available the new RBI office located in the Apphira building in Cleve Colony will be inaugurated on August 24.
This will be the third RBI offices located in the north east. The first branch of the RBI was opened in Guwahati in the early 70s and the second one in Agartala was opened only last year.
Sunder said that the benefit of having the RBI branch will be that all the banks schemes and projects implemented by the different banks in the State will be monitored effectively and stringently. – By Our Reporter
