SHILLONG, JAN 20: A local court has remanded the three accused of a gang-rape of a 21-year-old woman at a village in Ri Bhoi district to 14 days judicial custody. “They (accused) have been remanded to 14 days judicial custody,” SP GD Kharwanlang said. The rape incident took place at Nongtraw village on January 13.
The three including an auto rickshaw driver have been identified as Kyrshan Lyngdoh Marbaniang, Meljohn Ramshon and Ropsing Nongpluh.
They were arrested by police after acting on an FIR lodged by the victim’s grandparents.
Police said the victim knows all the accused who raped her.
This is the fourth gang-rape case reported only during the month of January.
The other three include gang-raped of 17 year old girl by six persons at Mawmang in Mawrynkneng on January 1 besides two other minors who were gang raped in South West Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills.
Meanwhile in view of the rising crimes against women and children, the state government had also assured speeding up setting up of the special courts to ensure expeditious delivery of justice.
