BAGHMARA, JUNE 17: Rangdokram FC won the Super 5 Baghmara Challenge Cup 2016 defeating Dabigre Blue Hill FC by 2-1 goals. The high voltage three days futsal tournament was held at Baghmara playground in South Garo hills.
Pilman Marak of Rangdokram FC secured goal in the beginning of the final match and posed challenged for the Dabigre Blue Hill. Marak managed to secure another goal in the beginning of the second half.
Dabigre Blue Hill managed to score a goal in the last minute.
Over 3000 people witnessed the match. Sporting festivity was in the air at Baghmara as the futsal tournament was underway. The event was conducted in all style and colour. A local band – The Vintage- enthralled the crowd after the completion of the match.
Parliamentary Secretary and MLA Siju Rongara Rophul Marak gave away the cash prize and trophy to the winners and runners up team in presence of deputy commissioner Shella Marak, Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University Alicia Gatpoh, Dean ICFAI University Sonatchi Sangma, in-charge superintendent of police Abraham Sangma and district sports officer Saljagring Marak.
Speaking on the occasion, Rophul Marak said, “The tournament gave the much needed platform for the football talents of South Garo Hills. This kind of event give an opportunity for the youths to engage in productive sporting activities”.
Gatpoh said, “ICFAI is committed to promote sports, so we are making an effort to engage the youths. We want to celebrate the spirit of the youths and encourage them to take up challenges”.
Last year, the University had organised the futsal tournament in Tura.
“We were bowled with the success of the event at Tura and decided to promote the game in different parts of Garo Hills. We are proud to inform that futsal was organised for the first time in Garo Hills and in the state of Meghalaya as a whole”, Gatpoh added.
The tournament was organised by Baghmara District Football Association and District Sports Office in partnership with ICFAI University Meghalaya and supported by Superintendent of Police and District Administration of South Garo Hills.-From Our Correspondent
