SHILLONG, AUG 1: Shops and business establishments preferred to down shutter on Thursday fearing breakdown of law and order in the capital city because of the public meeting held by the ngos to oppose the proposed New Shillong Township project of the government. The district administration however took a precautionary measures and immediately deployed security throughout the city.
The police used the newly purchased Rapid Intervention Vehicle at Khyndailad.
East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang informed that security was beefed up in the city as precaution to ensure that miscreants do not take advantage of the situation.
Large presence of security personnel was also visible at the public rally as senior police officials including district magistrates were posted outside the venue.It is learnt that NGOs wanted to take out a public rally on the day but the district administration did not give the permission.- By Our Reporter
