SHILLONG, MAR 6: The Shillong Press (SPC) has sent a team to Tura for handing over a condolence message of the journalists’ fraternity to the bereaved family of late Purno Agitok Sangma.
SPC has expressed profound grief and sorrow at the sudden demise of former Lok Sabha speaker and Meghalaya chief minister Purno Agitok Sangma.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the SPC president David Laitphlang and general secretary Powell Sohkhlet said, “Words cannot express the sentiment of the SPC members, especially those who had close working relationship with the late Sangma. “
The statement said that late PA Sangma’s life has been one that of success reaching the pinnacle of political success holding the highest office of the speaker of the Lok Sabha considering that he came from a humble background that of a cowherd . The statement said that it would be very difficult for anyone to achieve what the late Sangma has achieved during his lifetime.
The statement also recalled the interactions and press conferences that the members of the fourth estate had during various occasions which were memorable and knowledgeable as those attending always came out with something they learned through these interaction with him.
The statement also pointed out that late Sangma was always accessible to the fourth estate and specifically mention his ‘quick wit’ which endeared him to many. It said that in Sangma’s demise the nation has lost a great statement and a politician par excellence.
The SPC also extended its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family during such a trying moments.- By Our Reporter
