SHILLONG, MAY 16: As expected former Lok Sabha speaker and National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Purno A Sangma clinched the Tura Lok Sabha seat by defeating his nearest Congress rival by 39, 500 votes and sitting Congress Lok Sabha MP Vincent Pala retain his seat by beating his nearest Independent candidate PBM Basaiawmoit by a margin of 40, 348 votes
Though results to two parliamentary seats- Tura and Shillong seats- of Meghalaya are yet to be officially announced, but the veteran Garo hills strong man Purno A Sangma polled a 2,39,301 while the Congress nominee Daryl William CH Momin got 1,99,585 votes.
Interestingly the None Of The Above (NOTA) option which was introduced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) from this parliamentary election managed to garner 19,273 votes for the Tura Lok Sabha seat while for the Shillong seat it notched up 10,949 votes.
For the Shillog Lok Sabha seat following closely on Pala’s footstep is PBM Basaiawmoit who polled 1, 68,940 votes, followed by UDP candidate Paul Lyngdoh who for 1, 06,806 votes and surprisingly BJP candidate Shibun Lyngdoh 95,909 votes.
