TURA, MAR 22: Accusing chief minister Mukul Sangma of failing to contain insurgency as well as development in Meghalaya, sitting Tura MP Agatha K Sangma and National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Purno A Sangma said that the voters now should vote for change and elect a seasoned politician like Purno to represent the state in parliament.
The tirade against the chief minister by the two NPP leaders came in his home turf as they addressed an election campaign at Ampati, the constituency the chief minister represents, Mukul Sangma.
Addressing the motley crowd at the weekly market on Saturday, Agatha said, “It is important for Garo hills to re-elect Purno Sangma as an MP to resolve the ongoing situation (insurgency)”.
Accusing the chief minister of not being able to contain insurgency in Garo hills and discuss peace, Agatha said, “If CM can’t approach New Delhi to intervene during the Congress led UPA’s tenure, how he can do so when BJP and NDA forms the next government?”
Terming that Garo hills needs to elect a senior leader like Purno, Agatha said, “Garo hills has just one seat in the parliament, so it is important that Purno represents us in New Delhi, who can resolve our problems. MPs job is not essay, we need a seasoned man”.
On Mukul’s Cha’e Siangna statement (before I die let me have something) remark against Purno, Agatha said, “If he (Purno) was thinking for himself, he would have taken rest but he thinks for Garo hills”.
Appealing to the voters to vote for her father, Agatha even stated that Purno is likely to be given a senior position, if NDA forms the government.
Without naming the twenty seven years old Congress candidate Daryl William Momin, Agatha said, “It will be difficult for a new entrant to represent Garo hills. I am young, I could have continued as MP but the present situation demands representation by an experienced politician like Purno”.
The campaign scene is gradually picking as both the NPP as well as Congress is campaigning hard for their candidate.
Launching a tirade against the chief minister, Purno said, “India needs freedom from Congress”. He accused the chief minister for bringing about a holistic development in Meghalaya”.
Explaining the mood of the nation, Purno said, “Congress is embroiled in corruption, which has led to price hike and utter chaos. The nation wants a change and Ampati has to give a verdict for a change”.
The chief minister will also be touring different parts of Garo hills to drum up support for Daryl William Momin from Sunday.- From Our Correspondent
