Public meeting oppose ANVC (B) camp

West Khasi hillsSHILLONG, MAY 18: A public meeting held at Aradonga Community Hall between the Garos and Khasi communities of West Khasi Hills on Saturday opposed the proposed setting up of the ANVC( B) designated camp.

Attended by various ngos including Garo Students Union (GSU) Aradonga unit, Mother Union Aradonga, village headman Aradonga Circle, Association of Headman Malangkona Area, village leaders of Umshek Circle, Lyngngam Indegeneous Federation, FKJGP ,HANM, HNYF,WKSU, KSU and others, decide to submit a memorandum to the chief minister and home minister.

Presided over by the Village Headmen Aradonga Circle president the meeting started with a prayer led by the elders of the area.

The Aradonga unit GSU president Nikseng Marak said the union support various NGOs who are against setting up the designated camp in the area as it will affect the general public as the area is a
commercial hub as there is apprehension once the camp is set up unwanted incident might take place affecting peaceful and harmony of the people.

President of the headmen Malangkona Area, Robin Marak, said that even without the proposed camp the people faced problem because of the activities  of militants and witnessed crimes like kidnapping of
one elder of Madanjira, Malangkona area by the militants group.

FKJGP Langdongdai unit president Judis Dkhar was of the opinion that setting up the  camp might led to the communal clash between the Garos and Khasis who so far have lived peacefully. He said, “We are not
opposed to setting up the camp because they are the Garo but because they are militants.”

West Khasi hills unit of the KSU general secretary Wellesly Lyngkhoi said that there is something behind the decision of chief minister Mukul Sangma to set up the ANVC(B) designated camp in West Khasi hills area.- By Our Reporter
