SHILLONG, AUG 22: Residents of over 12 villages in Upper Shillong are all set to take a call at a public hearing to be held on August 26, on whether the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) will be accepted in the area, which falls under the Sixth Schedule of the district council.
Organized by the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) Upper Shillong, the public hearing at Football Ground, Umlyngka will also have speakers speaking for and against the alleged encroachment of the MUDA in implementing its building Bye-laws in the 12 villages.
Informing this here on Tuesday, SNSBH-UP general secretary Gilbert Laloo said that the Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh, who is also a representing Mylliem Constituency and KHADC chief Pynshngainlang N Syiem have been invited to the meeting.
Other speakers will include sitting MDC of Mylliem Constituency Teilinia Thangkhiew and Syiem of Hima Mylliem Ricky Nelson Syiem.
According to him, the meeting was necessitated after residents continue to be affected by the encroachment of the MUDA especially in term of getting water and electricity connection to their newly constructed houses.
Earlier last year after being inducted as a new minister in the Mukul-led cabinet, Ronnie V Lyngdoh in one of the meetings held in the area has threatened to quit as a minister and also as an MLA if the state government attempts to forcefully extend the operation of the MUDA in the constituency.
Asked, Laloo however said, “We have never asked him (Lyngdoh) to step down it was he himself who made the statement. He had also later claimed that when has MUDA made operational in the constituency. To clear all these doubts, let him come and clarify before the people.”
He said that objective of public hearing was to allow the residents of these village to take a collective stand on the MUDA. “After hearing the decision of the villagers, we expect these leaders to take necessary action accordingly,” he added.
