TURA, AUG 28: The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), South Garo hills on Friday demanded appointment of full-fledged tourist officer in the district. The body is of the view that South Garo hills has immense tourism potential, which needs a full-fledged officer to look into the interest of the district.
South Garo Hills is known for its Balpakram National Park, Chitmang Peak, Siju cave, Simsang river, amongst other tourists attraction.
The district is located along the India – Bangladesh border, about 106 km from Tura.
In a release issued on Friday, ADE urged the government to expedite the ongoing construction of tourist lodge in different parts of the district. The body has also urged the engineering wing of the tourism department to access the old tourist lodge in the district, which is in a bad shape. “The roof fitting is very ordinary and the construction is poor”, said Tigana N. Sangma, vice president of ADE.
The organisation also said that the new tourist lodge in the district has been built with outdated design, which is not attractive and will not portray tourism department in good light. They feel that the district has no hotel and as such to promote tourism, the department should create better infrastructure and hospitality facilities.
ADE also sought immediate operational of the “anaconda” boat, which has been sanctioned for the district last year. The landing station at Baghmara and Siju is almost complete and the department should make the boat operational.
To promote water tourism in the district, the government sanctioned the boat. Others demands of the body includes – appointment of full-fledged district transport officer for South Garo hills and withholding of the transfer order of the transport officer.- From Our Correspondent
