SHILLONG, AUG 10: The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Tura campus will get a new Pro-Vice Chancellor likely by next month. NEHU Vice Chancellor informed a delegation of the Garo Students Union (GSU) which met him in his office chamber at NEHU Shillong Campus to discuss on the several points made in the memorandum submitted to him.
“The VC promised that a new NEHU Pro-VC will be sent to NEHU Tura Campus in the month of September,” GSU president Tengsak G Momin said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He said that the vice chancellor also assured the delegation that 5 percent of the non-teaching staff will be regularized in accordance with the ratio of teaching to non-teaching staffs as laid down by UGC norms and NEHU is not satisfied with the norms.
The VC also noted down the GSU’s complain that the number of teaching staff in NEHU be increased and assured he will look into the issue at the next NEHU meeting.
On the two vacant posts of Assistant Registrars, Momin said, “It was assured that the posts will be filled up in execution of the official process.”
The VC assured the GSU of expanding the departments in NEHU TURA campus taking into consideration the departments that are already there in NEHU Shillong Campus besides the post of two section officers.
Earlier, the GSU along with NESO had met AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi in 2013 and asked for his help to set up technical colleges in Meghalaya especially in Garo Hills. Rahul Gandhi promised Engineering Colleges for Meghalaya – one in Garo Hills and one to Khasi Hills were given.
In Garo Hills, the Engineering College is to be set up in Ampati as per the wishes of the Government of Meghalaya.
The VC said he will be delighted to affiliate the engineering college with NEHU and was waiting for it.-By Our Reporter
