Power scene bad: Opp

SHILLONG, MARCH 18: Opposition members in the state Assembly on Monday expressed their deep concern over the worsening power scenario in the state, especially in the Garo Hills and the Jaintia Hills region, and asked the government to take immediate steps to solve the problem.

Taking part in the debate in the Assembly, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said the power situation was very disappointing in the state, as exemplified by the recent complete collapse of power in the Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills. The matter, he said, needs the immediate intervention of the state so that the flaws are detected and rectified at the earliest.

NPP legislator James K Sangma said the power situation in Meghalaya was going from bad to worse and the government needs to address the issue, especially since the students throughout the state were appearing for their SSLC and HSSLC examinations now. Expressing concern over the delay in executing the 132 KV Nongalbibra–Agia power project, he said: “The power minister has a lot on his plate…We want a pro-active government, not a reactive government.” (By Our Reporter)
