SHILLONG, JAN 6: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday claimed that there is visible positive impact in Garo hills region after the disbanding of the two militant outfits, ANVC and ANVC-B late last year.
“There is palpable impact resulting in number of surrenders and even desertion also,” Sangma told reporters after the cabinet on Tuesday. According to him, this is visible after disbanding of the two outfits and also an outcome of the continuous pressure by the security agencies operating against the militant and insurgent outfits in the region.
“Today, what we see is that there are indication and sign of members of different outfits understanding the ‘futility’ of taking up arms and waging war against their own people and against the state,” Sangma said.
Stating that the government is keeping a close-watch on the scenario, Sangma said, “All these, we are doing under limited resources as we have constrains and we have challenges.”
Hoping to see good days ahead, Sangma said, “But despite limited resources, with the kind of continuous focus that has been given, I think we will definitely see that there will be restoration of normalcy in due course of time.”
Sangma, however, cautioned that it is not easy to presume that it can happen immediately but the government’s sustain efforts with the support of the people a breakthrough will be made as the government will be able to overcome challenges.- By Our Reporter
