Police rescued man in South Garo Hills after being held captive for 8 years

SHILLONG, MAR 1: A man was rescued from a village in South Garo Hills District after he was held captive by his own relatives for more than 8 years.

 

The district police had swiftly acted on information received about a video, which has gone viral on social media, which shows a man being wrongly confined in an isolated place in Pachimgre under Gasuapara police station, for more than eight years.

 

“On enquiry it is known that a person named Grenal B. Marak (32), S/o Henison M. Sangma was held captive by his own relatives and Maharies for his mental illness has been rescued yesterday by the Police Team of Dimapara ICP, South Garo Hills,” police said.

 

They said that the person has been forwarded for medical treatment to Psychiatric Ward, Baghmara Civil Hospital for further treatment and management.

 

The person is mentally unsound and violent and thereby slowing the rescue work.

 

Legal action is being initiated against all those responsible persons and case is being initiated at Gasuapara Police Station.
