SHILLONG, JUNE 9: Three gang members of a robbery group were arrested along with arms, while a former HNLC militant managed to escape after looting a woman at gun-point in her residence on Monday night.
The robbery took place at Phlangwanbroi near Mawsynram in East Khasi hills district, when a group of four hardcore robbers came in local taxi (ML-05D-3288) entered the house of one D Rapthap (46) and looted Rs 30, 000 from her at gun-point.
Acting on a tip off, police immediately conducted vehicle checking on the Dangar-Mawsynram road and intercepted the local taxi at Pomblang falling under Dangar police outpost.
“We have arrested three of them while an ex-HNLC cadre who was also involved in the robbery manages to escaped taking advantage of a jungle nearby as soon he saw the police party,” East Khasi hills SP (City) Vivek Syiem informed reporters on Tuesday.
The arrested have been identified as Pynshai Rani, Barabor Namsaw and Raj Jamatia.
Syiem said, “The police efforts to nab the culprits were successful because of immediate information provided by the public to police.”
From their possession, one 9mm pistol along with one magazine and four 9mm rounds along with cash of Rs 6666 were seized, Syiem said while informing that the rest of money was with Synsharlang Thongni, who is a former HNLC cadre.
According to the Syiem, all the four have been arrested before in several cases of robbery and theft and are hardcore criminals.
Amongst the four, Pynshai Rani (Kharbani) has been arrested in 21 cases and he was also booked under Meghalaya Prevention Detention Act (MPDA) twice, Syiem said.
Syiem further informed that Thongni was also arrested for murder and robbery and had also been arrested in Mawkyrwat last year, for helping the HNLC in their activities.
Syiem informed that the police are making all attempt to nab him and a case under sections related to robbery and arms act has registered against the accused.- By Our Reporter
