SHILLONG, JULY 13: Eight illegal liquor sellers were picked up by city police after seizing over 39,599 litres of IMFL liquors from their possession. The huge seizure was made during a raid conducted by the police from Sadar police station on Tuesday
A woman and a transgender were among the eight persons arrested for indulging in the illegal selling of the liquors, which are of different brands.
Police informed that the woman and the transgender were also earlier arrested in a similar case and were convicted under section 110 of the Meghalaya Police Act.
“We are looking forward for getting them convicted for repeated offence where the fine is Rs 10,000 and for the others Rs 5,000 for first offence,” police said.
Meanwhile, the Sadar police station has decided to continue with the raids against illicit liquor in all places as it opined the importance of public support in tackling such menace.-By Our Reporter
