SHILLONG, AUG 7: The office picketing called by NGOs on Saturday to demand for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state paralyzed most of the government offices and financial institutions in the state.
The state government had declared Saturday as a working day to compensate for the loss of working hours due to the bandh on Monday but very few except for high ranking officers came to work.
The secretariat wore a deserted look as only handful of employees attended the offices on Saturday. A senior official admitted that the attendance in all the offices of the district is very thin.
The employees did not adhere to the directive of the state government to attend office despite warnings issued to them. To prevent any untoward incident, the district administration had promulgated section 144 CrPC.
The state government had also arranged for public buses to enable the employees to attend duties and the buses were seen parked at the state central library complex
East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang informed that there was no incident on Saturday as nobody tired to stop office goers from going to their office. Despite that most of the government employees decided to remain home.
Security had also been beefed up throughout the city with CRPF personnel and state police manning various areas to prevent any untoward incident occurding during the office picketing.-By Our Reporter
