SHILLONG, JUL 21: Headmen from the Shillong agglomeration have responded positively to the state’s draft proposal for a new water and sewerage body for the city, PHE Minister Marcuise N. Marak said on Tuesday.

Chairing a consultative meeting on Monday, Marak said stakeholders including PHE officials, Urban Affairs, Shillong Municipal Board and rangbah shnong were briefed on the Shillong Drinking Water and Sewerage Draft Act, 2026.

“This is regarding the Shillong drinking water and sewerage draft Act. We called it Jal Board in short. We have already drafted the Act and are consulting all stakeholders before moving forward,” Marak said.

He said the department made detailed presentations on the working of the proposed board and the reforms it would bring.

“We had a very good consultative meeting. Especially the headmen, they were very happy and expressed very positively,” he said.

The draft will now go through further consultations with senior leaders, the Deputy CM and CM, before being placed before the Cabinet and the Assembly for passage.
