SHILLONG, OCT 11: Miscreants attempted to torched down one puja pandal at Gorkha school in Umsning in Ri Bhoi district on the first day of the three days festival by throwing petrol bomb from a distance. Ri Bhoi police however said the miscreants were not successful in their nefarious attempt as the puja pandal was not damage.
Police said the miscreants threw the petrol bomb from a faraway place and it could not reach the puja pandal.
After the incident, security has been beefed up in all the puja pandals of the Ri Bhoi district and the presences of the security personnel in all puja pandals have been doubled. Police are on high alert.
The incident took place just few hours after Durga puja celebrations started in the state on Friday morning.
Meanwhile the East Khasi hills district police has put on place mobile patrol parties in motor cycles to ensure a quick and effective response to any incident that might take place.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said that the police has come up with the mobile patrols since many cases of arson has been reported from different parts of the city in last one month.
Kharkhrang said each of the motor cycle has two police personnel with arms. He said the mobile patrols will increase mobility and it would help the cops to reach the spot faster in case of any incident.- By Our Reporter
