Pen down strike by non-teaching staff in October

Shillong, Sept 24: The Meghalaya College Non Teaching Employees Association (MCNTEA) has decided to stage a pen down strike on October 4 and 5  for the government failure to release the remaining thirty percent arrear. The government had released 40 and 30 percent of their arrears in 2011 and June 2012 respectively.

In a meeting held on Saturday, MCNTEA decided to hold a pen down strike as there was no response from the government to release the remaining thirty percent of arrears even after the organization has served deadline to the government that expired on September 20.

MCNTEA president R. Mawrie told reporters Monday that the organization sought appointment with chief minister twice but on both the occasion were rejected.  He lamented, “The Chief Minister has really looked us down and given the impression that we have no value in front of him.”

Mawrie informed that the non teaching association does not want to hold any agitational programmes but the action of the government has compelled them to do so and warned they will continue to fight for their rights till they get it.

The MCNTEA consist of 15 colleges all over Meghalaya comprising of two from Tura, two from Ri Bhoi District, one from West Khasi Hills District and 10 from East Khasi Hills District.- By Our Reporter
