SHILLONG, JAN 5: The Jaintia Hills unit of the Contractual Teachers’ Association on Tuesday took out a peaceful rally demanding the state government to save their jobs.
The rally started from Lad Kiang Nangbah Government College and culminated at Jrisalein playground, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills district.
Teachers also displayed placards during the rally and some of them read – “We want job security. Save our service”, “Our life depends on our job, so please don’t kill and throw us”, “Termination is totally deprivation of human rights”.
The decision to organize the rally was due to fear that the state government may terminate the services of the teachers appointed on contractual basis.
Expressing its full support to the aggrieved teachers, vice president of the FKJGP Jaintia Hills, Danny Shadap assured that the organization would take up the issue with the state government since most of the teachers are overage.
