SHILLONG, APR 6: Breaking the male bastion, the first batch of 100 women soldiers of Assam Rifles passed out at the Assam Rifles Training Centre And School, Shokhuvi in Nagaland on Wednesday.
Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju took the salute and addressed the new women soldiers during the ceremony and said that women are no less than men as they are also progressively contributing in all fields leading to the development of the country.
Rijiju exhorted all present during the passing out parade to continue playing their role effectively to make the nation rich and prosperous. He also gave away the prizes to the women recruits for their outstanding performance during training.
In his address to the newly attested soldiers, Rijiju said that he is happy to be part of this historical event of the Assam Rifles and reminded them of the force’s rich and proud heritage and its commitment to the country’s security. He said he is confidence that their training at the training centre would stand them in good stead in all their future assignments.
The 100 women soldiers will be posted to the various battalions of Assam Rifles and be used for search, frisking and Interrogation of women when required, disperse female mob/crowd control and tackle agitations involving women agitators. They will also be employed at Mobile Check Posts (MCP) and Road Opening Operations apart from Cordon and Search Operation (CASO).
The women soldiers will also be assigned the Relief and Rescue Operations duty during communal and natural calamities and help in dealing with women Over Ground Workers/protesters so as to avoid violation of human rights and project a clean image of the force are other important tasks.
A total of 212 recruits were part of the parade in which 100 of them were women The oath taking ceremony was held in the presence of the national flag and force’s colours. The young soldiers swore to serve their motherland and to protect its integrity even at the cost of their lives.
Breaking the male bastion in the 181 years old Force , Assam Rifles had recruited the first batch of 127 women recruits from recruitment rallies conducted all over India and their subsequent reporting for training at Assam Rifles Training Centre & School in Dimapur in March 2015 .
Three Indian army lady officers were specially posted to Assam Rifles Training Centre & School in March 2014 to plan, raise and institutionalize a separate training company for women recruits at the training centre.
The glorious attestation parade xeremony was organized under the aegis of Assam Rifles Director General Lieutenant General HJS Sachdev and Brigadier K Narayanan, Commandant Assam Rifles Training Centre and School.- By Our Reporter
