Pala slams govt: ‘development doesn’t mean only roads’, alleges funds end with ministers-contractors

SHILLONG, APR 28: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala on Tuesday accused the state government of limiting development to road construction, alleging that central funds are not translating into growth in health, education, or other sectors.

“You see whatever they get money from Delhi as majority of the ministers are contractors so they will only send it to roads, there is nothing much in education, health, other training centres which they have done,” Pala told reporters.

“So development doesn’t mean only roads.”

The Congress chief alleged that money released by the Centre does not reach key social sectors.

“When it comes from Delhi it goes to the contractors, ministers and then it ends there but we have not seen any hospitals being build up, we have not seen any new schools and you dont see any new university and you dont see anything,” he said.

Pala stressed that growth must be broader. “So overall, development has to be inclusive, it is not only for road development,” he said.
