Sitting Congress MP Vincent H Pala on Monday assured to do away with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), which according to him has affected thousands of students from getting admission in universities.
Addressing an election campaign in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District, Pala said, “We want to do away with the CUET because admission to the different universities should depend on the respective universities not on the government.”
The Congress chief said due to the CUET, many students have been deprived from getting admission in the universities.
“Therefore, we strongly feel that freedom (to decide) in regards to admission should rest with the university, not the government,” he said.
In regards to employment, Pala said that the Congress, if voted to power, will come up with a policy to ensure that salaries of educated youth should not be less than Rs 1 lakh a year.
He further assured that the Congress would also promote sportspersons, especially those coming from poor family backgrounds, by extending financial aid of Rs 10,000 annually.
