PA meets Bharati over Rongai project

SHILLONG, AUG 13: Former Lok Sabha speaker and Tura MP PA Sangma met union minister for water resources Uma Bharati on Thursday at parliament and underscored the importance of revival of the Rongai Valley project scrapped by the Meghalaya government.

Earlier Sangma along with his son former Meghalaya finance minister Conrad Sangma met union ministry of water resources senior officials, including Dr Amarjit Singh, additional secretary to discuss developments related to Rongai Valley Project.

A delegations comprising of PA Sangma and Manirul Islam Sarkar- former Meghalaya minister- had met Bharati last week and had submitted a memorandum for  revival of the Rongai Valley project.

Again Sangma met Bharati in the parliament on Thursday after which the latter further directed her officers to discuss in detail the present status of the project and how to move it forward.

Bharati assured Sangma that the project will be taken up by Government of India, and will not be scrapped.

In the course of the discussion with the officers it was learnt that after the memorandum was submitted by Sangma, the union government directed the Meghalaya  government to submit a revised proposal which would then be taken up by the central government.

The revised project will include subject related to recreation (tourism), drinking water, fishery and other related issues.- By Our Reporter
