SHILLONG, OCT 9: Opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) expressed its reservation over the move of the state government to shift the Reid Chest Hospital to Umsawli in New Shillong Township.
“Since Umsawli in New Shillong is going to be the hub of the new township locating the TB hospital in such a location is not feasible,” UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh said during the question hour in the assembly on Wednesday.
Last year, the state government had signed an agreement with KPC Group for the setting up of a medical college under Private Public Partnership (PPP) at the present Reid Chest Hospital.
Replying to this, state health minister AL Hek however said that shifting of the TB hospital from the present site to Umsawli in New Shillong will not affect the poor patients.
According to Hek the proximity of the site to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) coupled with the availability of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) for BPL families will not affect the poor patients if the TB hospital is shifted to the new site.- By Our Reporter
