TURA,SEPT 6: The Garo Hills United Alliance (GHUA) has strongly condemned the National People’s Party (NPP) led executive committee of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for non-payment of dues to the staffs.
The opposition MDCs of GHUA supporting the indefinite strike of the council staffs today said, “GHUA strongly support the staffs of GHADC in their fight for justice”. They also sought intervention of the state government and governor of Meghalaya to take cognizance of non-payment of dues to the council staffs for the past 10 months.
“It is great violation of justice and human rights, we ask the government and the governor to take appropriate measures to end this injustice even to the extent of exploring the possibility of bringing an administration rule in council”, said Rupert M. Sangma, Tura MDC, who issued the release on behalf of GHUA.
They also demanded stepping down of chief executive member (CEM) of council Denang T. Sangma, who has failed to provide the rightful dues pending for the staffs.
Informing that the executive committee of the council has failed to provide financial report even after expiry of four months, Sangma said, “There is no transparency in the council that even a democratically elected representative of the people is denied information. Opposition is kept in the dark as far as financial status and administration is concerned. We strongly condemn this”.-From Our Correspondent
