SHILLONG, MAR 23: The state government on Wednesday said it is taking measures to ensure that only genuine citizens of the state are included as beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Replying to a call attention notice moved by UDP legislator Jemino Mawthoh in the assembly, minister Zenith Sangma said, “The department is taking measures to see that only genuine citizens are included.”
He said that the claims and objections process is being carried out in all districts and sub-divisions, to ensure that this is done.
“All DCs and SDOs have been instructed to carry out the process of claims & objections, along with physical verification and also with the help of EPIC card,” Sangma said.
According to him, the beneficiaries under NFSA have been identified from the date base of Socio Economic & Caste Census (SECC), which makes no discrimination between a tribal and non-tribal.
All genuine citizens of the state, whether tribal or non-tribal and those fulfilling the criteria of SECC 2011 are eligible to be included under NFSA, the minister added.-By Our Reporter
