SHILLONG, MAY 11: The sub group of the Chief Ministers on Skill Development chairman Prakash Singh Badal said the country’s greatest problem is ‘unemployment’ which is the offshoot of lack of skill.

Badal told reporters after a meeting in Shillong, “Such attention on the problem of unskilled has not been paid.”  He said human factor is the most important for the progress of the country but much attention has not been paid on this aspect.

According to Badal, skill is the most important because the more the percentage of skilled, the higher will be the per capita income.

Terming Monday’s meeting as important for the country and for its youth, Badal said, “The greater problem of the country is unemployment. The reason for unemployment is that our country is not skilled.

While in other countries the percentage of skilled is more than 80 – 90 per cent, Badal however lamented that in India the percentage of skilled is only 12 per cent.

Badal informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has constituted a board of chief ministers who will go in details about how to make this nation a skilled nation. He said, “We are gathering the views of different chief ministers in this line up to June 25.

Badal said the group is at the discussion level right now and thereafter will prepare the final reports. The next meeting of the sub group of CMs is slated to be held in Chhattisgarh.

However all the chief ministers of northeastern states and eastern states have skipped this important meeting except for Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma and Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki.-By Our Reporter
