SHILLONG, JUNE 1: Another person has been tested positive for coronavirus on Monday. With this, the total number of COVID-19 active cases in the state has climbed to 15.
“One more female who returned recently from Uttarakhand was tested positive today…She is from South West Garo Hills and (is presently kept under quarantine) in the corona care centre of the district. Now the state is having 15 active cases,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said.
Of these, 7 are from East Khasi Hills and 8 from Garo Hills.
He said the number of COVID-19 cases has also increased to 28 with one fatal loss and 12 others have recovered from the viral infections.
Earlier after a review meeting, Tynsong told reporters that there is no community transmission due to COVID-19 in the state.
He said that the new cases of coronavirus in the state were all related to returnees coming from outside the state.
“The state government has been taken care of all the returnees’ right from the time they started their journey till they reached the state by not allowing them to mix with other people and I am sure that we will be able to control the spread of the virus to the maximum,” Tynsong stated.
The deputy chief minister also assured that the government is fully prepared to deal with the situation. “From day one, I have told you that we are ready but we are hoping for the best and are preparing for the worse but right now everything is under control in the state,” he added.
Asked, Health Minister AL Hek said that there is no containment zone in the state. He said as on today 8094 out of 8504 were tested negative while test results for 338 are being awaited.
On the other hand, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said that they are yet to receive any report on the allegation that one of the doctors in the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institution of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) have been tested positive for COVID-19.
