SHILLONG, MAY 8: A one day workshop on skill development was held on Friday at the State Convention Centre. The workshop was organized by the Meghalaya Skill Development Society (MSSDS).
Speaking as chief guest, Meghalaya chief secretary PBO Warjri said the main reason of the present dropout rates is the attitude problem that keeps on inhibiting the actual progress.
“Discipline is essential in almost every occupation or trade”, Wajri felt while referring to the enthusiasm of the youths in the present day. He said that the youths should not only look up to employment opportunities within the country but also should prepare themselves to go overseas.
Wajri urged the MSSDS to link with the agencies that promotes employment and placement abroad. He also hoped that the youths continue to participate in these kinds of skill development programme and takes advantage of the avenues that are open to them.
Earlier Warjri along with C&RD principal secretary and MSSDS CEO KN Kumar, Planning department principal secretary and deputy CEO of MSSDS P Jain and Executive Director of MSSDS RM Kurbah released a document on the Meghalaya State Skills Development Framework.
Warjri also launched a website of MSSDS.
Anoop Satpathy of British Council did the presentation on the “Performance of the MSSDS State Plan Scheme: Setting the Baseline for SCF”. .
It is worth mentioning that the Government has duly notified the Meghalaya State Employment Council (MSEPC) with the objectives to find ways to tackle the problem\of employability of the youths in the state by enhancing the productivity of the new entrance to the labour force in the age group of 18-35 years through various governmental and non-governmental agencies.
In this regard, Meghalaya government established the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) on December 5, 2011.
The society is designated to promote employable skill formation in Meghalaya and develop a cohesive skill information, entrepreneurship and placement framework for Meghalaya, based on current and emerging needs of the economies of the state and to carry out skill development and placement activities through its Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs).
Others who spoke on the occasion were KN Kumar, P Jain.
The inaugural programme was followed by a technical session where important topics and deliberations such as ADB Project Review by Prashant Jha, Accenture Strategy/Project Management Consultant; SFC-An Overview and Skill Training by Rashmi Mehra, British Council; Monitoring and Evaluation Framework of ADB by Anoop Satpathy, British Council; MSSDS Experience of Skill Development by Meba Blah, SDO, MSSDS; Roles and Responsibilities of Community Mobiliser and their linkages with the District Skill Development Officers (SDOs) by Pranab Jyoti Panging, Team Leader, Aide-et- Action; Queries/Discussions on working together, support required, perceived challenges, suggestions by KN Kumar, CEO of MSSDS and Experience sharing by one of the PIAs by Subhra Ray, Deputy Regional Manager of IL&FS were made.- By Our Reporter
