Shillong, Sept 13: After the government failed to meet its demand for appointing a doctor in the Dawki PHC, the War Jaintia Unit of the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF-WJR) decided Thursday to call for a one-day “office-picketing” on September 20 to protest against the government failure to redress the grievances of the villagers.
“The office picketing will be effective in the entire War Jaintia region,” JYF-WJR vice president Founder S Gashnga informed.
The decision was taken at a meeting held recently after the 15 days deadline served to the government expired.
Gashnga said, “The government has totally turned down the demand which really concerns the people living in the border and neigbouring villages.”
The JYF have been repeatedly demanding for the appointment of a doctor in the Dawki PHC to cater to the medical needs of the people of the region.
Gashnga said that the people from the area, especially those residing in the border, has to travel to other hospitals in Shillong and Jowai during emergencies and even minor sickness.”- By Our Reporter
