SHILLONG, MAY 12: Even as the pro-ILP ngos are bracing for the sit in demonstration on Wednesday demanding release of the KSU president Daniel Khyriem, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has decided to hold one week office picketing beginning on the same day.
The decision to hold office picketing by the HSPDP was announced after its one week deadline served to the state government during a public rally expired on Tuesday.
The HSPDP has demanded that the state government immediately resolve the current stalemate arising out of the last year’s high court ruling relating to the traditional heads.
“The office picketing as decided will immediately be effective from tomorrow since the state government has failed to response to the demands put forth by the party,” HSPDP vice president Ardent M Basiawmoit told reporters.
The picketing will also be effective in the entire Khasi-Jaintia hills region of the state.
Basaiawmoit also warned to intensify the stir if the state government remains unresponsive to the party’s demand.
Appealing to the office goers to support the office picketing, he said, “We urged the government employees to cooperate on the issue.”
He also assured, “We are there with them (employees) and we are ready to pitched in if any action is taken against them (office goers).”
The public rally organized by the HSPDP and attended by regional parties, NGOs and traditional heads have demanded the government to resolve the current stalemate arising out of the last year’s high court ruling within the stipulated time.
The meeting also demanded the state government to immediately pass the KHAD Village Administration Bill, 2014 and come up with a State Law to empower the traditional institutions and traditional heads in the state.- By Our Reporter
